Use the search function for the message board. Type in Niagra. Frank has several photos posted in here of the Niagra with photos of the 70 footers in Cuba. Welcome aboard.

Looks like Apprentice Seaman Hubert Chancey, from Birmingham, Alabama, arrived on the USS NIagara on Feb 3, 1942. He enlisted on Dec 24, 1941. On 4/24/42 he changed rate to Fireman 3rd Class. On 8/1/42, he advanced rate to FIreman 2nd Class.
On March 1, 1943, he advanced in rate to Fireman 1st Class.
And on May 27, 1943, he transfered to RON 3. On August 3, 1943, he transfered to MTB Base 1.

thank you for the update
questions??
first let me thank all of you for all this quick response and pictures
just so all you guys know your efforts are so appreciated ,
this is a thumbnail sketch of my dad , he only had a second grade education but brought self service (racetrac) to the state , he built 14 gas stations and had many business interests to include movie threatres and helped gregory peck film 12 o clock high at fort Rucker Al. My mom built her own beauty salon out of block she laid herself for a two story buiding.
my dad was one of three brothers that enlisted on the same day in Enterprise alabama and when asked when could they leave my dad replied "just as soon as I tie my damn shoes" this was photographed and written up in the Enterprise Ledger .He eventually received 80 percent disability and died in 1985 at around 85 or so. but you know i don;t think his records reflect a purple heart yet he had sevice wounds
just need your professional opinions
i remember him telling me how he was sunk said he also did some time on local p t boats but cannot support by records he was a real serious farmboy by nature not given to exxageration or lying and he told me he had a torpedo actually come into the engine room
your information talks to a tender the USS James in the area but no one references the Niagra as a service boat
think it might be in the diaries , the nav source talks to where how sunk but appears all or any wartime photos go to anchorage in cuba (which i was not aware of to official records and sinking in Solomons
and the movie 109 reference to the crewmember going aboard the 109 from the sunken niagra
