I see that AFV Club makes styrene 40mm ammo for Bofors guns. They also make 40mm brass ammo. Great for dressing up Bofors armed PT boats.

I’ve got the 40mm ammo kit and It is great. What really pleased me was their release of the 1/35 German EMC Naval Mines for the !/35 Italeri S-100 Schnellboat, This is a really impressive kit but has roll off racks for the mines or depth charges but doesn't include eather one.. There were some resin ones out for around $80 but they went away , if they show up on eBay they go for over $100 Good bargain for $20. AFV Club is a company to pay attention to.

Let's kick this up a step - Orange Hobby has a beautiful set of turned brass rounds w/PE clips - there is enough per package to make up 6 loaded clips - Dave Waples and I grabbed a bunch of them when they first came out. A bit pricey but I'm using them for all the open ready service sites on my boat - here is a link where you can get some further information. They are worth the price for sure. They are nicely done and you can see the fuzes with magnification but they are all HE rounds - if you wanted accurate AP rounds you could round off the tips slightly.

A bit pricey? That's precisely why I mentioned that AFV Club made STYRENE 40mm ammo - not every modeller can affor pricey stuff. In fact, I know many who no longer build models because the model kits have become very compicated with PE and/or resin parts and quite expensive. Newbies looking to get into the hobby come to various modelling forums or forums where models are discussed, see all the pricey stuff and cooments stating the pricey stuff is needed to build a decent model, and the newbies leaves very discouraged that they can't afford a kit and the stuff needed to build it.

I'm really glad that companies like AFV Club and RICH are offering modellers ammo sets that are styrene and very inexpensive compared to turned brass ammo sets.

Cheers from Peter

I have to agree with Peter. I love adding extra detail and correcting kits. I just can't build Out of Box but definitely cannot afford the price of some of the extra's and have to improvise. Bronco. AFV Club, Milart & Miniart & others make some really nice alternatives for many things.

Eduards offering for the 596 kitset was rather a disappointment I must say though.

To each his own Peter. There are still lots of affordable kits out there from Revell, Airfix, and others. There's no reason somebody who can't afford high end kits can't find enjoyment in the more affordable offerings. If people are walking away from modeling because they want high end products and don't have the budget for it they're going to walk away. I for one am happy to see manufacturers improving their craft bringing out such wonderful products. They wouldn't be doing it if there wasn't a market for it. The important thing is to have fun with your hobby.
