An interesting question, which I do not have the answer. We know that the boats that were painted in those god awful stripes were pretty much white and black, and some even had some green thrown in for good measure. My question is, we always see the sides of the boat and her structures painted, but what about the deck? Trust me, I am not getting ready to do one of these projects, but just curious.......................

There's a photo of PT-169 where you can see that the decks are what looks to be gray. no stripes.

Frank;
I have alot of the RON 10 boats in and around Bayonne on my photobucket(pg 10). But as you know most don't show the deck. I sure would like to know if any color photos were ever taken, they sure took alot of Black and Whites. I remember when I went to PTHQ there were alot of photos in the files. If I remember correctly PT 170 had the most, followed by 169, 168, and 174 respectfully. I dont remember seeing one for 164, because I think I would have copied it, and for some reason I don't have one for PT 172 either. If anyone has photos of PT 164(not the blown up photo at Rendova) or PT 172 in zebra camo around Bayonne, Dec 1942-Jan 1943, please post them.
Take care,
TED

Ted, I hear you, I do not have any photos in my files showing an over-head shot of the deck, and certainly no color photos of same. There must have been some model builders that built a Zebra boat on this site, what did they paint their decking................

Of the three or four models I have pictures of, none carry the zebra pattern onto the deck (of course they are only models).

If you use a magnifying glass on first-generation photos taken at the plant of the first group of boats with the Adaptor pattern, you see that the decks are a solid color. Given the time perioid, this was probably Weatherdeck Blue (20-B).

An overhead view of the RON 10 boats on ATASCOSA (AO-66) shows solid decks on these boats, as well.
