Hello, me again,
I am currently researching my next boat build, PT195 with the 37mm , the quad .50 cal mount , 20mm in the turrets and the 40mm on the after deck. I have most of the ingredients ready, I just need some roll off racks.
It's a way off at the moment but it would be nice to feature her as 'Toodles' with the name, and pin-up painted on the bridge, although I have a photo of her in this configuration where she appears to be without the artwork but has the same mission markings.
As a starting point, does anyone know if a photo exists of the pin-up art?
I have the famous crew shot which shows something is there, but details cannot be made out.
I am guessing that the painting was of 'Toodles Galore' the sexy cat from Tom and Jerry, who was modelled on Betty Grable, although some conflicting information on the web states she didn't appear until 1946, so maybe not.
Thanks in advance.
Best Regards,
Stu.

Hi Stuart, Back in 1999 the late Bill Diver, Skipper of PT- 195 when boat was named Tootles described the pin up as a pretty girl posed like the famous Betty Grable pinup. Think I have the same picture and have submitted a lighter version of the shot. I'm still looking too.

Thanks, Wayne,
Something to go on. I was hoping it would be the cat.

Hi Stu,
The challenge will be the M55 quad 50. They are very scarce. I see one on ebay in China right now for USD 50.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/DRAGON-1-35-6421-Guad-Gun-Trailer-M55-Smart-/111218537172?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item19e52432d4
Griffon makes an excellent update set for it. There are a couple of versions I think.
Looking forward to watching this one come together.

Dave,
Nice to hear from you.
Got one already. The roll off racks, torps and the 37mm are the only things I need. I am looking for a cheap 596 kit for those and the engine room hatchway/ammo storage cabinet, but will scratchbuild them if pushed. Maybe trade for the 109 tubes. It's all a long way off yet as I am in the middle of another project, but it's nice to have all things in place beforehand. How is your 105 coming on? You have been very quiet.
Best Regards,
Stu.

I know that I have asked his before, but do any of the new brood have a picture of the 156 boat with the stern mounted .50 cal Maxon turret? I am assuming the same location as the 40 cal... I have all the necessary parts( PT596, PT109, Dragon Maxon mount, And Italeri PT accessories.

Hi Stu,
Realize this is digging up an old thread, but I have this photo of the 40mm, aft 20mm, aft number and depth charge on PT195 which might be of interest since it shows some detail of the configuration in late 44 or so.
According to the mark up on the back of the photo, from left to right is MR Davies (XO - spotting), Calvin Johnson (trainer), Jerry Donovan (1st loader), and Frenchy DuPlantis (pointer). This came from the estate of LTJG William S. Diver (CO-PT 195 for the last year of the war).
I'm assuming the white canvas from the radars is some sort of additional ID feature from the Battle of Leyte Gulf? Seems it might work for daytime recognition both ships and aircraft.
