Gary,

Classic PT photos -- thanks for posting them.

I've seen that boat identified as "PT 149 off New Guinea" in several sources before, but I've never seen the PT gunner, his boat, or the numeral "2" (Ron 2?) on his helmet identified.

Anyone out there know, for sure?

BTW, I think PT 149 MAY be the 80' Elco boat underway I've seen in some very brief color film footage on a History Channel program. I'll have to dig through my VHS tapes for that program's title. A DVD of that show, from which screen shots of that boat could be made, would be valuable. To me, the boat's color in that footage looked to be a close match to Haze Green (5-HG).

I found these photos on a US Government website on Gen. McArthur.
They were illustrations used to describe his exploits in the South Pacific.

Hello Fellows:

I am not so convenienced that this is the 149 boat. PT 143 carried the low mast primitive Radar set up as well. She also carried twin 50 caliber machine guns on the Bow, which seems to be evident in the photograph. If I am not mistaken, PT 143 also had at one time 2 depth charges on the Bow, just forward of the Port and Starboard Torpedoes, but I have to check that. PT 143 also had a FIGHTING COCK drawn onto her Chart House and to the left of that was a NAKED WOMEN, pretty well endowed if I remember the picture.

The only caption on the photo was;
PT Boat patrolling in New Guinea 1943.

I dunno, Frank. I've got a copy of this print with much less contrast, and those are two single mg mounts forward; it just doesn't look like the twin .50 deck mount in the 143 picture....

I dug out the picture I was refering to and sure enough, it shows the Radar set and a set of twin 50's. If I knew how to put the darn picture on this site I would send it for you to see. Maybe if I have time I can scan it to your E mail.
