I am trying to find information on my father-in-law John E Mirus 225 22 89 . Any leads will be appreciated and If anyone can point me toward source documents for this info I'd appreciate it.

Info I have on him:
Assigned to RON 5 Dec 9, 1943
He trained under TM3c Beryl Leach
We THINK he was assigned to PT 63 on June18, 1943 - the day the boat burned. If not 63 then 107 - The boat burning story always stays the same but a few times he has confused the 2 boats.
He transferred to RON 20 in Jan 1944.

Would you have information that:
would tell us what boats he was assigned to prior to April 15, 1943 -the date the 63 was transferred to RON5

Information on boat assignment after June 18,1943.

Information on assignment in RON 20. He rotated back to the MTBSTC school, after being assigned to RON 20, Is it possible that RON 5 was moving forward and they needed an assignment for him til he returned to the states?

Once again Thank you.

Hi Rick,
I looked up his name in the Knights of the Sea book and could not find his name. Not a deal breaker, just a quick reference. Jerry

Ron 5 was decommissioned February 15, 1945. The 77'er's PT's 62, 64 and 65 were stricken from Navy register because of obsolesence January 20, 1945. The remaining boats were transferred to other squadrons.

What I've found from Muster Reports:

Looks like he was transferred from RON 5 to RON 20 on Jan 1, 1945, not 1944. He arrived at RON 20 on Jan 21, 1945. He was then transferred to the Receiving Station, Repair base, San Diego on Jan 22, 1945.

I’ve lost the track on him after this date until:

Sent to R/S Boston from MTBSTC on June 21, 1945 (The June muster report for MTBSTC is missing so I can't tell where he came from.)

Sent to MTBSTC from R/S Boston on July 7, 1945

Arrived at MTBSTC on August 7, 1945 from Boston Receiving Station.

Sept 2, 1945, from MTBSTC to Shoemaker, CA for Future transfer to duty as assigned by COMWESSEAFRON.

While it doesn't give you any boat numbers he was assigned to, this shows you his tack. Still searching

Thank you all for the details. We were aware of a few things mentioned.

Is there a file somewhere of PT Boat logs from that time? Would
PTBOATS.org in Memphis have files on this sort of thing? Trip to Memphis could be in order if I thought that I might have some luck there.

Hi Rick,
The old PT Boat Deck Log books are kept at the National Archives (NARA2) in College Park Maryland. You should go there to see them instead of PTHQ in Gertmantown TN.
