All;
While just watching this at the point that comes up, 22 hours 40 minutes after the attack
I finally see a photo of a RON 1 PT idling about 100-150 yards off what looks like USS California (BB 44)! I don`t know about you guys, but I have not seen photos of RON 1 boats, looking for survivors, or anytime around the attack. It is an enhanced photo but it looks legit.
Take Care,
TED
P.s. P-40B (41-13297) #284, 18th Pursuit Squadron, which was undergoing repair at Wheeler Field on Dec. 7, 1941, has just been purchased by Robert Collings of the Collings Foundation. Stow, Massachusetts. Yes, it is restored to flying condition, and the worlds oldest surviving example of a P 40

I visited the new air museum at Pearl Harbor last summer. On display there they have the original Stearman trainer the George Bush Sr. soloed in during his naval aviator training. Also on display were the remains of a Jap Zero that was damaged and crashed on the northern most island of Nahiu following the attack.
Also on display is the original trainer aircraft shown during Tora Tora Tora where the female instructor and student find themselves surrounded by incoming attack aircraft.
The center piece currently is a mock up of the USS Hornet flight deck with a B 25B painted in the markings of Lt. Ted Lawson's plane # 7 complete with the "Ruptured Duck" logo and correct tail numbers, off to the side is a pilots briefing room with all the information given to the crews just prior to launch.
Also on display in the main building were a F4F Wildcat, SBD Dauntless, P40 Warhawk, and the infamous Jap Zero, along with other military weapons and equipment from that era.

I believe the Stearman in question might have even flown today. The island you mentioned is Niihau.
