Well folks I thought some of you might be interested in how the Barge Hunting mission was filmed. It was shot over a 6 week period with a total of 30 or so hours "on-station" compiling 5 hours of PT video in addition to the Zero, compliments of Planes of Fame in Chino, Ca. Along with a very large group of "good ole boys" out here in AZ during some night time target practice, I collected the footage needed for the shore attack and then many hours creating the story line and drawing the mission map. That was a real problem due to the sun angle and of course not getting me, my XO or the truck in the footage. So after about 40 hours in Post Production, we had 30 minutes of one heck of a "Sentimental Journey" that took about a total of 80 hours to complete. Here are a few of the camera angles used on-board the 623. The last photo shows a rather large HD camera mounted on-board as a test and that 17" beam handled it great. In the beginning of the test you might say I was a bit puckered but after a few minutes the 623 was taking those turns at full speed smiling all the way. On a final note for those who might be interested, the on-board GPS recorded a top speed of 12.2 mph which is a very realistic scale speed around 40 mph. Not to shabby for a 30+ pound electric powered boat....

Can't wait till next year !

Roy;
That diorama in the background looks like its coming along nicely. It almost looks like a resort, where are the native girls?
Take care,
TED

Thanks Roy . . . .

Those shots are great and exactly what I was asking for. The boat is rock solid with the camera setup, specially the big Sony. Very interesting!

Great stuff . . . .

PS: Your work room looks as big as my house!

Thanks for sharing Roy, great stuff. I too noticed the Diorama in the background, the Palm trees look impressive, are these yours or Franks. Looking forward to seeing the build up on this one, photos please.

Really cool setup Roy, is that Dicks framed posters I see on the wall? GPS in the boat eh, I would have loved that back when I was R/C racing.

Thanks guys. Frank, the palm trees are a different design and technique than what Frank R did. He was awesome in sending me some of his beautiful samples which I then modified when I made all of these to a fuller palm frond and a more detailed top and coconuts along with a much easier construction method than he used. I hear tell he will be building a new bunch using my new design for his amazing diorama. On a side note, each of the new smaller trees have 10 larger fronds with 100 cuts in each frond. The few larger trees have double that and also a bunch of dead fronds hanging from the top. All in all I figure I have now made close 150,000+ cuts with my Fiskars. I should send them some photos!

Yea Jeff, the GPS is great for measuring the speed and the crazy zig-zag course needed to evade those pesky Zeros when they show up uninvited.
