Well here is final installment of PT 623s Barge Hunting mission for this year. I hope you all got your imagination on before you came aboard and had a great ride. I hope everyone enjoyed the trip and a big thanks to all who took the time to post the wonderful comments and like the 3 videos on You-Tube. I have almost run out of ideas for the next mission however, I keep thinking about that view from the attacking Zero.
I would love to hear some realistic ideas for the next ride-along. Please remember, the guns do not fire so no smoke, flashes etc, but the 16 rockets can. However I'm afraid to fire them off in fear of what that will do to my paint job. Also, a full scale destroyer is an awesome idea but that is something I would have to ride in and that also posses several problems. With that said, hit me with your best idea.

Thanks to all for riding on the South Sea Sinner once again.

Very nice Roy . . . what we need next is a "Stop Motion" type of film, oh yeah five or six years of hard work should do it for a 10 minute stop-motion with leg, arm head, so on and so on movement, guns swiveling, panning up and down, so on . . .

What I need to see are photos showing the actual camera locations on the boat, and the actual cameras by themselves, along with how they are hooked-up.

Thanks guy, nice work,
Dick . . .

Wow, great job as always Roy! It is truly amazing just to watch. Now we just need you to come out to Portland next summer to ride on PT658 to make some comparisons! Jerry

Roy it was a pretty realistic patrol. I did notice all the tracers were going away from the boat. What makes it real interesting is when the tracers start coming toward the boat. You suck up to become the smallest target possible.

Another successful mission, thanks Roy! Featuring one of my favorite fighters, the Corsair.

That must have been real frightening CJ, watching those streaks of light coming at you knowing that you couldn't do a thing about it if one had your name on it.

Great job on the third instalment, I see as you go along that you are trying different things out which adds to the story!

As to an idea or two for a future Mission how about an attack on a Jap Sub lying at anchor unloading supplies, as its night time a full sub need not be build as a silhouette cut out would do or just the top half? This did happen and the PT Boat did sink the Sub so would have a basis in history.

As well maybe a sneak attack up a small closed in creek to a Jap camp for a bit of a surprise thus shooting it up and burning it down, the Jap camp would allow you to make it as small or large as you like with the added advantage of being able to work on land, it would be interesting to have the view of the Boat slowly making its way along the creek while the Jap camp goes up bit by bit. Again this is one raid that did happen and would have that basis in history.

I understand the issue with the guns and crew but the cutaways to the tracer firing and then back to the boat with smoke or more damage as you have done is fine and just makes one think a little more!

Keep up the good work ,

Yours,

D.buck

Thanks for the great comments guys. Dave, I love the idea for the sub. It would need to be done in sections but I think under the right lighting, it would awesome. I know that on the night of 24 December, 1943 PT 152 and 191 caught a 125 foot Jap sub on the beach with several barges at Gneisenau Point, New Guinea. After riddling them all with gunfire, the crew wanted to tow the sub back to to Dreger Harbor but the skippers thought that was not such a good idea.

The only problem I have would be getting it to the other side of the river to assemble the sub. Living in AZ the only place close with no buildings or hotels in the background is this awesome inlet I found off the Colorado River over in CA. However it's 72 miles away one way and with only a 6 week filming window per year due the the heat and color of the foliage, I don't have much time at all for my magic. I still keep thinking about that view those attacking Zero pilots had. Hmmm............

This is another post that had bad links from 9 years ago - I have now updated them with live YouTube links.

Enjoy,
