Hi Guys.

Me again with another query or two.

My PT-490 build I'm on constructing the interior area's around the open hatches using what ref I can find. From what I see the interior of the hatch closest to the bow was painted in a darker colour than most the interior. I'm assuming most were from what I see

I've no real reference to the colour. I've scratched the bulkhead and ladder and hatch surround from reference..

Also in several pics there is something inside the hatch in front of the ladder but I can't clearly make it out. Anyone cast some light on this?

If anyone has even a rough guide to what is within eyeshot of all the hatches It would be greatly appreciated. The stern one especially.

Cheers guys

Keith

Jerry has posted some nice color photos of PT 150 in P.I. 1945, in his photobucket account, take a look.
Take care,

Notes on the rope locker and deck hatch drawings state Assembled hatch to be given one coat of zinc chromate and to be painted gray on exterior surface and white on interior surfaces. The images I have of open hatches appear to show the inside painted the same as the deck, or a darker color. None appear white although it's hard to tell with b&w images.

Here's a link to the photobucket account Dick has set up for us, and Jerry Gilmartin's album link:

Hi Keith,
Here are some pics from interior of Fwd and aft deck hatches. The first is from PT150, the others are from PT617 at Fall River Museum.
Jerry

PT150 fwd hatch

Fwd crews quarters fwd bulkhead on PT617 in Fall River, hatch just on other side of bulkhead

Bench inside bow area on Stbd side directly below hatch on PT617 Fall River Museum

Not color but enough to tell the hatch interior is not white colored (Alvin Hansen photo)

another same boat

Ahoy.

I'd paint the interior of the hatches the same colour as the deck but not as weathered. The hatch, being closed most of the time would not be lightened by sunlight like the rest of the deck would be. Same colour as the deck because a white gatch would show up too well especially at night. Tank crews too paint the inside of hatches the same colour as the exterior.

Cheers

I always painted any open hatches a bit darker shade than the boat we were having done.

Just out of curiosity, does anybody have an opinion of the color of the 150 in the above photo? Looks like some sort of midnight blue, way too dark for navy blue 5-N. Your thoughts?
