Hi all,
Dick was kind enough to point out an article by the late Dick Keresey, skipper of PT-105 and author of the book, PT-105 on ebay a few days back. I had to have it and I jumped on it! Thanks Dick! I've been lucky enough to exchange letters with both Mr. Keresey and Mr. Iles who skippered PT-105 which is the boat I'm building now. Somehow I'm going to utilize this article with my build.
I HIGHLY recommend reading this article. I think I even liked it better than his book because it is so candid. You can find it on the American Heritage web site at the below link. Or go to their site and search "farthest forward". What you wont find there are the photos from the article which are priceless.

David,
I read that over breakfast. A well written and poignant look at life then as ever. Brave men did some amazing things, they still do in other theatres and it was very interesting and informative to see it through someone's eyes. Someone that was there and did it and just did it.
It's always easy to sit back and say what should have happened in any conflict but these guys were in the thick of it, split second decisions had to be made, orders had to be followed or disregarded. It's so easy to criticize but not many would have taken their place that do criticize I bet.
Thank you for sharing this with us.
Keith

They certainly do still today. I caught this young man on the news today. Army Ranger, Husband, and father to be. Terribly injured along with many members of his team by an IED in Afghanistan. They thought he was unconscious and after all he has been through he manages a salute. Full of pride and honor even still. Hooah!

I second that Will: "Sua Sponte, Rangers lead the way!"
THE RANGER CREED:
Recognizing that I volunteered as a Ranger, fully knowing the hazards of my chosen profession, I will always endeavor to uphold the prestige, honor, and high esprit de corps of my Ranger Regiment.
Acknowledging the fact that a Ranger is a more elite soldier who arrives at the cutting edge of battle by land, sea, or air, I accept the fact that as a Ranger my country expects me to move further, faster and fight harder than any other soldier.
Never shall I fail my comrades. I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong and morally straight and I will shoulder more than my share of the task whatever it may be, one-hundred-percent and then some.
Gallantly will I show the world that I am a specially selected and well-trained soldier. My courtesy to superior officers, neatness of dress and care of equipment shall set the example for others to follow.
Energetically will I meet the enemies of my country. I shall defeat them on the field of battle for I am better trained and will fight with all my might. Surrender is not a Ranger word. I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy and under no circumstances will I ever embarrass my country.
Readily will I display the intestinal fortitude required to fight on to the Ranger objective and complete the mission though I be the lone survivor.
Rangers Lead The Way!!!
