Mr. Frank started his war tour as a member of Ron 34, PT-505 in England and after that was transferred to PT-108 in the South Pacific. Mr. Frank's daughter showed us some of his photos during his pinning ceremony at Fitzsimmons VA Retirement Home. She was kind enough to image these for us and thanks to Denny White who works for the VA we would like to share these photos with you.

I'll break these into two different posts. English Channel and Pacific

A PC photographed from the 505. These PC's seemed to show up often with the PT's in the English Channel.

PT-505 was mined on June 7th during D-Day operations while chasing a submarine. The following photos are from the repair of the boat.

The following are other Ron 34 photos

I thought this was interesting. Notice the anti slip tread around the 20mm instead of the raised gun pad you normally see...

Some of the boats incorporated a splinter pattern. Not sure if this photo wasn't Stateside training. But it does show up in other boats.

Moving day photos. Mr. Frank's squadron relocated and they packed up everything.

PT-510 at dock. Looks cold. Can you imagine driving these boats in the channel on a cold day!
 photo scan0012_zpsad86d7b0.jpg

This was the most unique photo of 505 or any of the English Channel boats. Notice the wind screen. This must have been an experimental wind screen because I've never seen it again anywhere else and is not on this boat at any other time. Also notice this boat was named Diana. Finally of interest to me was the raised section along the port side of the Chart House and the curved locker attached to the spray shield and cockpit. Anyone know what was stored here?

Thanks again to Mr. Frank and his family for allowing us to use these photos.

I wondered if there was a way to share these without the watermarks. I am compiling research into the history of Ron 34 and some of these pics tell an important part of their time in England.

Really interesting photos, especially the one of PT 505. The pic of the 37mm gun on the foredeck surprises me, I thought the Channel boats didn't have them .Difficult to tell because in most pics the guns on the foredeck had covers. Thanks for sharing.!

Regards,

Arjan

Arjan;
Several RON 34 and RON 35 boats carried 2 37MM's on the forecastle, port and starboard. So did Ron 30 boats.
Take Care,
TED

Well, that's interesting. I thought Photobucket would have dumped all those photos. I wonder if I can recover them? I'll check.

Well, those bastages at Photobucket kept my photos and it appears they are teasing me to subscribe with them again. After they told us all they were flushed down the digital toilet. Well, before I fork over $5 I better check to see if I have them on a flash drive. Stay tuned.

Dear Dave these are superb images and some I've never seen before. I appreciate your kind considerations. I will be writing an article for the 75th Anniversary of the sinking of PT-509 in August 2019, these would be great to include. I am also organising a ceremony of remembrance on August 11th on the island of Jersey.

I was unable to do anything with the flickr link. But the good news is that I did find the images without having to go to photobucket. As far as I'm concerned I don't own these photos. Do you have any preference in how I get these to you?
