The original post "1/35 37mm cannon"
Page two of the original post was damaged and after many attempts I was unable to repaired it. This happen once before a while back where some bad linking code messed up the post.
However, I did my best to recapture what I could as a single post. Each post has a bolden name indicating how wrote the message. A new "Reply" post is made below with the corrected Images and Text Links.

Does anyone know where I can get a 37mm cannon for my 1/35 PT-109 boat, no not the one that comes with the kit. I need one as I have decided to have Stan build me PT-108. I want to keep it pretty much out of the box, although I need 37mm. I have the SO radar Mast, and .50 caliber single mount on a pipe. She was pretty standard other than that carrying a 20mm mount on the stern and having her 4 torpedo tubes.

Ahoy there Frank.
I take it you're looking for the 37 mm auto-cannon from the 596 boat kit?
Frank Andruss
Hey Pete I sure am looking for that weapon.........

Keep in mind the 37 mm from the 596 kit is the late war version. It has a longer barrel and the mag is a different shape than the version usually seen on early and mid-war boats.
Frank Andruss
I know but it is better than trying to scratch build one, I need to get some photos of the earlier model so I can have Stan fix it up. If anyone has any please post them or E Mail me.

Thanks Randy, and thanks to Pete for being so awesome to send me a 37mm cannon for my project.............
PeterTareBuilder2
Ahoy there Frank.
Is there another Pete who is sending you the 596 37 mm gun? I made my comment upthread so people would know which gun you wanted. I already gave/traded the one from my kit away. If I did have it I'd give it to you.
Bob Butler
Peter, I sent the one you traded me to Frank, so the Thank You is fitting....

Hi Frank. if you are doing the 108 while she still had tubes, you might want to reconsider the automatic 37mm and use the anti-tank 37mm instead. That would be the same gun the 109 had lashed onto her on her final mission, and comes in the kit. There was a web site about the 108 that was up for a while, but no longer seems active. It showed many photos of 108 and she initially had the manually loaded anti-tank 37mm on the fore-peak in a pipe mount, on a pad with four triangular braces against to pipe. I may have saved these photos on my other PC. I'll try to locate for you.

Mike, that would be a great help if you have those photo's. I would love to know what she had for a 37mm. Alex Johnson did one for me in 1/72 scale for our PT-108/Sub Diorama, but being so small at 1/72, it is tough to tell how it was scratch. I wish I could ask my buddy Alex, but he is making models for our Lord now. If anyone has a photo of the 37mm that was on PT-108, please send it to my E mail or post here.

I found them. Downloaded 7 years back. I saved because the 108 was the only other boat aside from 109 that I had confirmed that had the anti-tank 37mm instead of the P-39 type M4 auto cannon. I'm sure it was later changed for that one, but this was her first 37.

Mike that is great, can you E -mail them to me please.

Hi Frank, Not sure why they are not showing up. Here are links to go directly to the three shots.

Interestingly I found myself on eBay this morning and since there I realized its been a very along time since I've typed in "PT Boat". This time a few products into the page listings I saw this post for a print article. The interesting part of this post is the cover pages for the article, which showed a photo of PT 108 and the discussion that has been talked about here, the 37mm, I decide to do a really quick post here on the board. Here is the image below and the basic info on the item being sold:

Dick, that title page photo is a bigger less cropped version of one of the ones I posted above. Lots more detail showing, but it's the same photo. Unlike the later 37MM M-4 or M-9 automatic 37MM's, which used tracer to walk into a target, the M3A1 anti-tank 37MM, being a single shot gun, had to be aimed with precision sights, which show well here.

Thanks for finding that Dick. Some good photos of what crews did with the 37mm anti tank guns. Surely what the 109 crew had intended to do with hers.
I couldn't resist buying an article by Mr. Keresey. :-)
