Greetings fellow PT Boat fans, another new guy here. I have spent days and days going thru this forum. I open it up every day to see what’s new. I am blown away by the knowledge and info you guys have, plus the absolute amazing models I see on here. I have had a high interest in the boats since I was a kid – like many of you, that started in the ‘60’s with PT-109 and PT-73. The internet has allowed me to re-connect with these amazing boats and the men who were on board. I am a member of PT Boats Inc, have made the trip to Fall River Mass, met DS, and toured the boats. Money well spent. I own a few built models, many NIB models, and am working on 2 models right now. One is a 77’ Elco Danyo Model – I have salvaged the deck house, scrapped the deck, and recut the hull to have the classic 77’ detailed curves. Plan on using some left over Lindberg parts and make the rest of the parts to complete the project. The other model boat is one of those 74” wooden models that come up on E-bay occasionally. I plan to add 6” to the74” boat to make it a more accurate 1/12 scale. The boat has a 20” beam so I wonder why the builder didn’t make the boat length 80” to match the scale? Will add props, shafts, rudders, mufflers and pretty much re-do everything else.
Changing gears, in the “my opinion” department - I grew up hearing adults saying that JFK was negligent in the loss of PT-109. After reading “At Close Quarters”, and many other PT accounting books, I don’t think he was negligent. After reading so many accounts of night time operation, foul weather, engine failures, friendly fire, sound travel on the water, and etc, I can easily see how this event could have happened to the best of the PT boat skippers. Another opinion, I grew up loving McHales’ Navy. Was so sad to the sorry re-make of it on the big screen with Tom Arnold. I still watch the TV show on DVD. I didn’t appreciate Joe Flynn when I was a kid, but I really enjoy his character now. If you ever see some of the behind-the-scenes footage, JF was a real cut-up – nothing at all like Old Lead-bottom.
Thanks for having me.
HW

Welcome to our Forum Harvey, I m sure you will enjoy the people here. We are as bunch of folks that just have a deep passion for the boats and the men that walked her wooden decks. Like you, my interest began with PT-109 and They Were Expendable, and now at 56 it has become my passion.

Welcome Harvey. I think I am the oldest member of the board, 86 years old. When I first
found out the message board, I thought I found a gold mine. First thing in the morning I turn on the
computer I log on the message board. All members are great guys. You won't believe the
combine knowledge of the board and their helpfulness. My book AMERICAN PT BOATS
IN WW II , vol. I and II would never published without their help and cooperation.
I hope you too will find this gold mine useful. If possible please show some of your
models so our member can enjoy them and make suggestions to make them even better.
Again, welcome.
