I received an alert from L'Arsenal who is a French model ship company. They were advertising a model of a Soviet G-3 Torpedo Boat in 1/350 scale. Small but an impressive looking model.
It caused me to hunt around the web to learn more. I came across this Russian video (with subtitles) on Youtube. Very interesting boats. More than the G-3 are discussed in this video.

Give it a look.

Dave, Dave, Dave,
You have your numbers/letters scrambled. Is L'Arsenal producing a D-3 or a G-5??

Hi Al,
Yes, I was definitely tired last night. It is in fact a Soviet G-5. The model I mentioned is made by North Star models and sold by L'Arsenal. The model is exceptional for 1/350 scale. I was amazed by the speed they claim to get out of these small boats and the method for launching torpedoes which is to slide them off the back of the boat and then get the heck out of the way.
I thought the movie did a nice job explaining the boats, qualities and short comings.
This drawings shows the three different configurations for these boats.
This is the actual built model. Very nice for such a small scale. I could see making a small diorama with these.

For 1/350, that is indeed exceptional. Does the PE come with the kit? Gotta get me one!

Ahoy there.
That's a very nice looking model. I'm waiting for the Master Box 1/35 scale )yes one/thirty-five scale) one to be released. It's a G5 too. Here is a link to the Master Box design so far and shows the entire boat.

That Masterbox kit could be quite an impressive model, Masterbox do some unusual and off the wall subjects. . As are those tiny 1:350 pure works of art.

Al,
You can buy those little beauties directly from North Star Models or wait until Brandon gets them at Freetime Hobbies.
The 1/35 G-5 model looks interesting. Engine room included.
I just dropped them a line and asked if they had any interest in doing pacific PT crew in 1/35. They do a lot of figures. We'll see what happens.

Good reference on the G-5. It's somewhat like a Squadron In Action, but far better drawings. Russian language.

EVERYTHING ABOUT THESE RUSSIAN BOATS SAYS "EXPENDABLE"; EVEN BY RUSSIAN STANDARDS.
