I did a very strange thing for me just recently and that was to go through all the mail concerning First Blood - Pearl harbor. It was quite a revelation to notice all the different subjects that were covered besides what was the paint color of X.
I found about 90% of it to be most interesting. I was moved to check the profiles of some of these prolific authors so that I could learn the who what, where, etc of some of these individuals. I was disappointed in learning that practically all indicated that information was not available. I guess I was gullible or stupid when I filed out my profile a few years back. This is just an attempt to see if other people feel the way I do.

Pat,
I hope that you will understand that as I am still of an age were I am still employed and I hold a job that requires a certain control over what personal information I would put over the net, profiles are a little short on information about me.
I hope this helps a little.
Yours,

Ahoy there.
I don't mind including my interests but I will not include any personal/private info that might identify me to lurkers/scammers or other unsavoury characters who troll the web. We really need to be careful about what info about ourselves we make available to total strangers.
Cheers from Peter

Mine's filled out
My location is listed as EG48 - this was the old designation for Washington State in the Navy Filing Manual that I spend a lot of time with as an archival researcher. It's meant as both a nod to that as well as a bit of an obfuscation to make it harder for people to know where I am without asking.

Private information is a huge Taboo on the internet today. I will include certain things, but try to refrain from giving out too much information for fear some scumbag will use it against me. Besides everybody knows I love PT BOATS, and PT BOAT PROJECTS, what the hell is left.............

I think times have changed, and not for the better. The 1st, 2nd and a few other Amendments are being attacked. There is to much interest in finding out personal informational on people. So it seems to make sense to me not just give information away. For God sakes I'm one of the most boring people I know. Every few years I get a letter from the California Franchise Tax board saying they received forums showing I'm making mortgage payments, and I haven't been filling tax returns. Every time I send the same proof that I don't make enough taxable income to have to report. They send me a letter back saying your OK for now. It seems they would figure it out sometime. I feel like what they are doing is wrong. It scares me to think of all my persional information being in the hands of stupid people.

Hi,
I would never give out any information these days unless I knew the recipient was trustworthy. Recently I have been bombarded with emails from banks (with which I don't have accounts) requesting me to contact them online to verify my account details. All these mails look convincingly like the real bank contact pages and all request account details. They must be netting some people otherwise they wouldn't try it. I had one supposedly from Paypal which was really convincing until I noticed that right at the bottom they spelled their name 'Paypel'
Thing is that they got my email address somehow.
It is sad that the internet, the greatest invention this side of the wheel, is infested with unsavoury people all out to screw you.
Best Regards,
Stu.

Frank, I agree with all you said. I now give a false phone number when asked and never never fill in my SS# when asked. Everything else is "CLASSIFIED"
Bob, Stand by for an e-mail.
Stuart, Have you noticed that e-mails seem to be running a little slower these days. Maybe that's because the NSA is reading them first. And did you see the news Google defending the right to "electronically" scan everyones e-mails. Yup, I'm going to post "all about me" on the web.
Scary when you Google yourself !!

Roy,
Not surprised. If that is the case, they must have enormous resource with nothing better to do.
Over here it is alleged that UK government departments are divulging our confidential details to third parties for monetary gain.
Who would have thought it
Best Regards,
Stu.
