Thanks for the heads up Bob. That is a fantastic sale. Hey, do you know what color the Arizona was when she went down?

Roy, this is only a theory, but I think it was mauve, same color as PT 109 when she went down. But if you want to spend $15 there's an Arizona book on sale that most likley could tell you.

Bob,

I get the impression that Roy was asking what shade of Mauve, any idea?

( now I swear I heard a strange sound as I posted that?)

Roy, I'll be serious now. This is kind of funny. Seems there was a big controversy. I read a few articles on the internet, Admiral. Kimmel directed that the ships under his command be painted a shade referred to as Mediterranean Blue, which doesn't exists as that name in the USN. Eyewitness accounts say Ocean gray 5-0, natural wood decks, tops of turrets red and above the superstructure Haze Gray 5-H. Someone asked the guy who was in charge of the paint locker. If only PT 109 was that easy.

Here is an interesting side note to the color of the Arizona. One afternoon while talking with Tom Freeman, he told me that when he was getting ready to do one of his paintings of the Arizona, he had invited Don Stratton over to discuss some details he wasn't sure about before undertaking the painting. One of those was the actual color of the ship when she sank. Tom said Don looked at him with a puzzled look and said "you know, I was on that ship for how long and I can't tell you for sure what color she was". And so is such with so many things as time passes on. Thank God we don't have a color issue with the "Killer Subs in Pearl Harbor" !!
