I know that Dumas makes a complete model for PT-212. I think the scale is 1/30, which makes it roughly a 30 inch build. Can you purchase after-market parts for these boats such as 20mm or 40mm guns, roll off racks, torpedoes, you get the idea..................I have a friend who would like to try and build this model, but would need to update her. See, Dave, this is why we need a HIGGINS PT BOAT from ITALERI............

As far as I can tell, no. It's a mongrel scale and a generally inaccurate and crude kit. You might be able to find some 1/32 or 1/35 scale parts which are relatively close to, but still not to the same, scale. Scratch-building time...

Trust me Al, I would never have the Kit built for me, but I have exhausted my builder's who are too busy to build him a scratch built model, and he would like to try and build it himself. He wants to present it to his Father who served on PT-309. Stan is way too busy, and recovering from some Health issues, and the other friends are busy with other projects. I think the 1/35 scale parts would look terrible, HURRY ITALERI, HURRY............

Frank: I have put together two of these Dumas Kits as a replica of our Higgins PT 242. I am pleased with the way they turned out. I have it outfitted with armament and roll-off torpedoes like our boat. The extra guns and torpedo racks are 1/32 scale from Loyalhanna Dockyard. I could not find 1/32 torpedoes anywhere so I had to build them from dowel rod. The kit does not come with a radar mast so I had to build it also. A true modeler would be very critical of it I am sure but I am satisfied. It looks like a Higgins to me. I built one for my son's Doctors office and he shows it to many of his WW2 patients.

C.J. I think it's great that you built these boats, and I am sure you are proud of your effort's. I certainly meant no disrespect to your modeling skills, but for me, I could not put this kit in my exhibit, Can you tell the difference by using 1/32 parts for a 1/30 boat? Please send a photo of two C.J. so I can send them to my friend to see the kit built.

Hi Frank and CJ.
CJ sent this photo to me that I posted to this board a few years ago. CJ may have painted the boat since then, but this is one of the boats CJ built. Jerry

Ahoy there.
Depending on how accurate the scale actually are there may be very ittle difference between 1/32 and 1/30 parts. Is the boat model a true 1/39 scale? I've run into this sort of thing with WW2 aircraft models that were supposed to be 1/48 scle but were closer to 1/50+ when the model was measured and scaled up.
Measure the hull of tthe boat and then m ultiply those dimensions by 30 to be sure it's 1/30 scale. You might bet really lucky and find that it's beween 1/32 ad 1/35.
Cheers from Peter

Jerry thanks for posting this picture. I don't know how to post pictures to the board. I'm from the slide rule era of Engineers not the computer era. Peter I have since added the crew that you gave to me to this boat. I think it helps the look. Thanks again Peter.
