Beautiful! Do you have any links to other examples of your work? It's inspiring. I've only got as far as gluing up blocks inside the hull for later mounting. I'm waiting on my new copy (old one went south during a move) of Ross and Lambert, because I think I want to flesh out the interior that can be viewed throught the hatches. At least the ladders anyway.

Ed,
I have been following these here and at the other forums that you post on. I meant examples of other models you have built.

Ed-
Your photos are wonderful. Very nice job on the boat. Hard to tell from the photos, but is your 495 boat in 1/24 or 1/20 scale,or other? Also, what type of power system are you using, assuming it is Raduio control? Good job on the camo.

Hey What gives. Where are the Mufflers on that stern shot. Not used to seeing an Elco without them. Looks a bit strange. Great job on the boat by the way. I love the way the color came out, although who is to say what is right or wrong. I do not think we can ever get the colors just right or the shade just right. best we can do is come close. Unless a crewmember can look at it and say for sure that you are right or wrong, who can say much.

Working my way back. Bow to stern.
My color photos of RON33's 493 show it was green /brown. John Snyder (Snyder & Short)reviewed the photos and said that he felt the colors were probably brown #4 and green #3 or 5-NG. He played with the color in the photo and said that nothing he could do could change the brown to anything but brown.
That said, the color photos are from sometime between July'44 and Oct'44.when she was in New Guinea. 493 was lost in the Battle of Surigao Strait a day or 2 after getting to Leyte.
A surviving crewman of the 495 who joined Ron33 and the 495 just before they sailed to Leyte and who was wounded Nov.19/20 and sent stateside told me that the 495 was Dark Green/Light Green (olive green like a marine uniform) while he was part of her crew.
When you look at my RON33 photo page and compare the bow camo pattern on the side view of the 493 at speed (wallet photo) with the close-up of the bow of the 493 sinking, the patterns just don't seem the same. It could be perspective or perhaps the boat was repainted before departing for Leyte. If 493 was repainted mybe they all were. This might explain why the color photos of 493 are brown and the memories of 495 are green.
Anyway, that is why I changed my model's colors from what I think are New Guinea colors to what I think are Leyte colors.
As you can see in the photo I made another smoke generator and mounted it. The crewman said they had 2. I also added the kit's 40mm depression rail only to find out later that these boats didn't have them. Nor did they have the rail around the rear of the 40mm platform. Looks like i have more work before I get to the mufflers.
Anybody have any input? It looks like the late style ammo locker for the 40mm needs to change too. Chun's book, page 61, shows several boats. In the group you can just make ot 490, 491 and 493. Can't see 493's stern but the other 2 show the 40mm installation fairly well.

How are you going to glaze the deadlights and ports, Microglaze or Elmers? Really looking sweet.
