Ahoy there.

I'm slowly getting my 1/32 scale Lindberg PT boat rebuilt. It had taken quite a beating in the over 25 years of trips to and from the pond.

I'm wondering about the 20mmgun on tthe aft deck and the mortar on the foredeck of the 103 Class boats.

Did the 20mm gun usually have the spent casing bag attached to it in combat?

What size mortar was usually mounted on the foredeck of boats with one? Was it the 60mm or was it the larger 81mm one?

Where was the ammo box for the mortar located?

Please note. This is for a boat *WITHOUT* any other arnament added to it; just the two twin fifties in the gun tubs, the 20mm at the rear and a mortar on the foredeck.

Here are three images showing where I'm now at on this rebuild.

Again I thank you for your help.

Cheers from Peter

Peter;
While I have not seen all field modifications, I can say I have only seen 60mm motors used on PT's which were primarily used for illumination. They had a variety of "field" made mounts, mainly of welded angle iron. The "ring" on your model does look like a set-up for an 81mm mortar. Here is a photo of my lindberg 1/32nd scale PT 167 Nov1944, this is the same set-up PT 167 had.
Take care,
TED

Always thought it was interesting that the 131 had a 20mm mounted port-side between the torpedoes. I don't remember seeing that elsewhere.

Will;
Look closer, That's a 20mm port and a twin .50 starboard mounted between the torpedoes! Plus Rockets! What a gun boat!!!
Take care,

Hi Ted ,

Have you any more photos that show the 131s bow and stern areas, She sure would be one tuff cookie in a gun fight, the ammo cans behind the forward turret and the 20mm box on the starboard side would sure mean that she could slug it out for some time and those rockets ,someone sure did some thinking when it came to acquiring extra weapons for this PT.

Quite a good subject for a model but obtaining the extra weapons and bits and pieces might take some time, but that's half the fun!

Ted,

Thank you, I would like to see them if you want to post them on the board for others to enjoy as well, if not my email is there.

It would get very busy during action stations on these boats I think.

Thanks again Ted.

Ted: One of my pics of the 132 has what looks like a similar 20mm mount portside amidships...

Also, twin .50s on the centerline forward of the bow 20mm. I'll post when I get a chance.
