Hi "Engineer",
Welcome to the discussion Forum. This is a great resource about WW2 PT Boats. I have a question for you,
When you say "stationed Miami boat yard ,patrolled Miami to st Lawrence river, then Miami to Mississippi River ,transportation engineer, may have been pt boat 18 fleet of 16. "
Not sure what you are asking for, need more details. Was he in the Navy? Was he an Officer or Enlisted? Was he a PT Boater or was he a Civilian "Transportation Engineer". The US Navy has never had any positions called a "Transportation Engineer" that sounds more like an Army Specialty, perhaps he was an Engine Mechanic (called a Motor Machinists Mate) Do you have any more details like his Rank and Rate? What does "PT Boat 18 fleet of 16 " mean? Are you saying he was on PT-18? Or 18th Fleet? Or was in a member of a PT Boat Squadron 18 or Squadron 16? (Referred to as "RON16" or "RON18" We could try to help you locate him but it is hard to help with the limited amount of info you have listed. Thanks Jerry

Hello Jim and welcome to the Forum. If you saw a photo of your Dad on PT-18, these were the first Elco built 70 Footers, which made their way from Florida to Cuba for testing. As far as your statement about your Dad getting a PT BOAT, to my knowledge there were no 68 foot PT Boats, however we did have several classes of Crash Boats, with the closest one to what you are saying would be the AVR, or Air Vehicle Rescue boats. These boats were very fast and were 63 feet in length.
There was an early 68 Foot boat built by Vosper, back in 1938, which carried 2 torpedoes. I have a few photos of PT-18 from the trip to Cuba if you would like to see them, just E Mail me.

The only Robert E (earl) Jones that shows up in PT rosters was a signalman and he shows up in BASE 25 in Aptil 1945.

Hi James and Welcome aboard.
Here are the photos you sent me, as you said in your eamil the photos are really old and very, very dark. I did the best I could to bring a little life back into them.
Guys, here are the boat photos James has been investigating, he appreciates all your help.
Below: This is the converted pt I thought was a 68 foot
Also with this fleet took picture from point ship
Sorry not to clear old picture.
What is this ship?

The yacht is a 63' AVR. Based on the superstructure (which looks mostly stock) this is either a Model 152 or Model 168 boat. My references didn't list this name.
The other boats appear to be from the group of 65' wooden T boats built by many different yards to the same basic design for the US Army.
