Hi All,

I have what appears to be a hand built model of PT127, I have been in contact with a family member of the crew but have not had any luck in finding the origins of it. The strange part I guess for me is that its not PT109, suggesting that it was made by someone that most likely had some relationship with the crew or that squadron (squadron7 sept 1942, division 19, then squadron12 feb 1945).
From what i have been told, it dates back to close to post world war 2. It is currently in Australia, unsure if it was built here or not but I have since found out PT127 did visit Thursday Island close to AUS (Thanks Mark) and was pretty much based in and around the south pacific.

Any help to shed some light on the origins of the model would be fantastic

Cheers,

Laurie,

This is clearly not a scale model and, based on a couple characteristics (shape of the stem, shape of the prop struts, and a few others), I suspect this is one of the Japanese ITO line of motorized, free-running toy boats. These were built in the 1950s in a variety of configurations and sizes. They appear on eBay from time to time, although I've never seen one quite like this one. I had this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/PT-TORPEDO-BOAT-TWIN-MOTOR-18-LONG-ALL-WOOD-JAPAN-BY-ITO-EXCELLENT-CONDITION-/230937560859?pt=Diecast_Vehicles&hash=item35c4f3871b as a child in Panama 1955-57.

Thanks Dick, Its the first time i've tried to post images in a forum, failure was apparent haha.

Thanks for your reply Al.

Some further info on the model, The bottom of the hull appears to be 1 single piece of rounded edged flat pine (like from a bookcase) with contoured pieces of wood glued on to add the keel.
There's no sign of ever having motors, the only things inside the hull are the ends to hold in 2 sets of batteries.

Sorry, i probably should have mentioned that earlier

Typical 1950's battery operated boat. I have one that I purchased several years ago. I will send you a photo.
