Hi Randy. I can't believe how quick this 305 project is comming. I'm building a 1/35 scale model of a Higgins. I was really impressed with the photos of the planking. If you don't mind answering a question, how long were those planks you guys used? Great Job.

LT John M Flachmann "Jack" was CO of PT 214 and PT 280. His father went to New Orleans toward the end of the war or just after and bought a wheel from Higgins Industries. He gave it to his son Jack as a momento of his service. Jack hung it on the wall of his den over the fireplace and never took it down. His daughter Ellen kept it after his death. While he was still alive, he sent a picture of the wheel to Hal Nugent. The back of the picture said "last Higgins wheel" and was signed with an "F". Steve Nugent still had the picture and always thought that it was from Fred Rosen. After tracking down his living family, we found out that Fred never had a wheel. After tracking down a couple of F names, we realized that it was Jack Flachman. His daughters Ellen and Jane felt that it belonged on a boat as this wheel was never put on one. Jane came Saturday with her husband Chip and donated the wheel. We had a small ceremony on deck and then everyone took pictures. What a special moment. Its great to have Jack Flachmann looking out for us.

Bob;
That is great, Steve told me the story a few months ago. I sure hope you guys put a small brass plaque on that wheel, something like:
Donated by the daughters of
LT. John M "Jack" Flachmann, USNR
CO PT 214 RON 15 and PT 280 RON 23.
Take care,
TED
