I am currently working on a project. PT 239 RON 19 was lost in the fuel dock fire at Lambu Lambu on December 14, 1943. Did this boat have racks vice tubes at this time? Did she have tubes in October 1943 or Racks? when did RON 19 do the conversion?
Thanks for your help!
Take care,
TED

Ted: PT 239 as you know burned at the fuel dock at Lambu Cove. In October,1943 it had tubes and it had tubes at the time it burned in the fire on Dec. 14th. I have a picture (not very good) of the remains of the 239 after it burned at the fuel dock. One of the tubes can be seen in the picture. We (PT 242) was the first boat in Ron 19 to get racks and MK X111 torpedos when the war head was blown off the port rear torpedo in a fight we had with some Jap barges. We got racks the first week of Jan 1944 at Tulagi. Most of Ron 19 boats got racks in Feb 1944 at Rendova when one half of the Squadron 19 personnel received operational R &R leave to New Zealand. Ron 19 was out of operation then and made no patrols from about Jan 15, 1944 until the first week of March 1944 when the guys got back from New Zealand and we started patrols out of Green Island..

Ted if you are interested in the fire at Lambu Cove I have copies of the official Navy action report prepared by our Squadron Commander Russell Smith. It has statements from all Navy personnel involved at the time of the fire (About 15 pages) Interesting!! I can send you a copy if you would like.

Ted, the action report makes for some interesting reading. C.J. sent me copies a few years ago.

Roy I received the package. Thank you very much. My son, Randy, and I enjoyed watching the patrol. Very realistic. I sent you an Email April 9th right after I received the package. You must not have received it.

Glad it worked CJ. I might have missed your e-mail. Sorry Frank, I have been a bit overwhelmed since the new room got finished. I'm almost finished with the Daihatsu barge and now everything goes on hold so I can get my 157 finished for the trip next month to meet Bridge, Bud & Welford. Sure would be awesome if you took a quick drive down as well and I can get Frank R to make an even quicker drive north from Florida. Now that would be a party !

I wish I could make it Roy, but these Knees are just too bad for me to make the trip and enjoy myself. I would like nothing better though. Please send me photo's of the barge and the room when you get time, that is of course, you have made progress.
