David and I both have the complete Royal sets for the PT and they are absolutely first class, especially his PE sets - we made friends with Roberto when he first released the sets and got some wonderful pictures of his diorama with the boat. You can't go wrong with any of his stuff you purchase - he is an armor guy at heart and they just seem to know how to make dioramas and the associated parts.

I have used some of the figures and Torpedo Crane from Roberto. Although high priced, they are pretty good. The torpedo crane was a chore to put together, as it is made from resin, and did require plenty of work to make it look great. The figures are very nice, as well as the Kapoks. Hopefully other companies will hear our pleas and make 1/35 figures and parts for PT BOATS as ITALERI has. Most of the figures used for my project were kit bashed by FRANK RYCZEK who visit's this board, because at the prices charged by Royal Models, one could go broke if yu need multiple figures.

I agree Frank. He has really nice stuff but way way to expensive. With a little bit of work, you can make all the deck stuff then take all that $$ and buy a few 1/35 scale sets of soldiers and draft them into the Navy.

I dragged out my Royal Models sets to give them another look and a quick review for you.
40mm: If you're going to add the 40mm to your boat the photoetch details are phenomenal. The 40mm in the 596 kit and what will be included in the upgrade set are the same so this should work perfectly for that.
Roll Off Racks for torpedoes: You have almost everything you need to make a beautiful set of roll off racks. Some magnificent detail including chains, thumb screws, etc. You will need to scratch build the bases for the 109 kit.
.50 cal and tubs: The tub parts in the 109 and 596 are identical so the tub parts will work on either boat. The Royal kits is designed to have the ammo trays covered. What's really nice about the Royal kit are the trigger mechanisms which are beautifully detailed. It also includes a chute for the spent rounds.
There are lots of nice resin pieces you may or may not be interested in. I particularly like the handles for the deck hatches and the chutes for the .50's.
I would also recommend the Harbor accessories kit. It includes a lot of details such as the life jackets which are beautifully molded to hang off the day cabin rails., helmets, and assorted drums, ropes, and ammo boxes. And you got to love the pelican!

Every thing David says. I just bought a set from Dragon Models on Ebay. When they arived some of the smaller parts were broken. I contacted Dragon with an email and within a few min, got a reply. He contacted Royal and it seems Dragon and Royal are having a race to get me the replacment parts . It's only been a few days and I havn't recieved them yet, but the intent is there for great service, I'm really impressed with the effort of both of these companys. Right now if you wanting roll off racks , ether you buy another PT596 to scrap, the Royal set, or scrach build.
