Did Tenders have a specific group of PT's?
A picture I saw of a Tender (dont remember which one)
said "with her pt's".
This made me wonder if the 156 had a specific tender I could picture in my book of my father in-laws time on the 156.

thanks, Julie

Julie;
Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 9(RON 9) was assigned off and on to USS Oyster Bay(AGP-6) and USS Mobjack(AGP-7) during the period of 15 Sept 1944- 15 Aug 1945.
Squadrons were attached and detached from tenders as operational requirements demanded. Several times, advance bases were set up and 1-2 Squadrons were detached to operate in the immediate area while the tender and 2-3 other Squadrons would continue to move North, from Morotai through the Phillippines.
Also assigned to these two tenders during this time period were:
Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 8(RON 8)
Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 10(RON 10)
Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 11(RON 11)
Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 18(RON 18)
Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 21(RON 21)
Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 24(RON 24)
Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 25(RON 25)
Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 27(RON 27)
Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 33(RON 33)

Take care,
TED

Juli,

If you go here: http://www.navsource.org/archives/09/43/4328.htm and here: http://www.navsource.org/archives/09/43/4327.htm
you'll find lots of photos of both MOBJACK and OYSTER BAY.

Hey Guy's, Thanks.
I was hoping to hear something like that.
Ted, Thank you for the information, I should have put the dates he was with the 156 in my post. Thanks.

Al, I will have to try those links in a little while.
When I clicked on them, it says "internet explorer can not connect", or something like that.
It happens to me alot when I try to go to Navsource.
Then when I try again later, there is no problem.
Its a great site. I dont know why that happens, just happy when it doesnt. I am happy to have the information.
Thank you.
Julie

I found this description for TENDERS at the PTBoatInc website. I copied and pasted it so I could ask you guy's if the Oyster Bay and the Mobjack would have had some or all of the things in this description? Any personal stories of these two Tenders would really be nice too.

As always, Thank you, Julie

In forward areas, Tenders served as a mothership for PT's, supplying gasoline, supplies and equipment in limited quantities. They also supplied torpedoes, ammunitions as well as basic engineering and electrical repair work. Tenders also served as a mess, furnished fresh water showers and generated additional electrical supply for moored boats. In later war years the Tenders became more sophisticate with complete overhaul shops, A-frames and/or towed floating dry-docks

Julie,
NavSource updates it's infomation almostdaily. When it does, the server is not available and you re unable to connect. Try again during a different time of day. They are trying to raise funds to replace the server with one of a greater capacity.
cheers
Jonathan
