Looking for information on this boat, as to how she might have appeared in November of 1943, while with Ron 19. C.J. thinks she was camo green/light green. Need to know:

1. Did she have So radar at that time
2. 40 or 20 on the stern
3. I was told she had a 20mm on the Bow
4. I was told she had torpedo tubes

Frank along with what I have already told you about 236, she had radar and definitely tubes at that time.

Thanks C.J., with what you have sent to me and the conversations I have had with Ted, I am pretty sure I know what the boat had during that time frame. Thanks very much.

Hey Frank, did you notice the next to last photo showing an unspecified RON19 boat? It looks like the camo paint job from early in her career, since she still has torpedo tubes mounted. It may be similar to what PT236 looked like early in her career around the time of the JFK crew rescue. Maybe? It is too difficult to make out the boat number, but it for sure is one of the 10 boats of RON19 PT235 to PT244.

I sure did notice that Jerry, and in fact on the back cover of David Doyle's book, HIGGINS PT BOAT, is a painted look at PT-234. She is showing that same design on her hull, although already modified. C.J. is pretty sure this was the type camo she carried during that time frame, and during my conversation with Gunner Mate, Leo Campbell, who was on the boat that night in 1944, he has stated the boat was painted 2 tone green.

I know 236 had tubes at this time because we (242) was the first boat in Ron 19 to get Mark 13 torpedoes. Our back port torpedo had the head blown off on Dec 27, 1943 and we were sent to Tulagi for new torpedoes the first week of Jan 1944. The rest of the Squadron got Mark 13 torpedoes in February 1944 while half of the crews were on operation R and R leave to New Zealand.
