A question for the modelers on the forum. I'd like to build a 1/35 scale PT-342. Mid 1944. What Italieri Elco would be the best? I built a 1/72 scale using the Revelle PT-109 kit and bought guns and aircraft torpedoes, etc...from White Ensign Models...Your advice is welcome.

I'd have to say the 109 kit Jeff.

Jeff, the 109 kit would work for the basic boat but according to Navsorce, this boat did have the 40mm, 37mm and the newer torpedoes. You would be much better off with the Italeri 596 kit. Here is a link to some basic info on the boat and I'll see if I can find a photo of the actual boat. http://www.navsource.org/archives/12/05342.htm

Jeff, Italeri will be releasing an upgrade/parts kit that will allow you to update that boat from the basic 109 (103 class kit). Hopefully Italeri will release information on this set shortly.

Thanks to all. I have Dad's photo album with lots of pictures but what concerns me most is what is molded into the deck of the later Italieri model and how much of that I'd have to change. Thanks Jeff for that pic of the 342-I've never seen that one.

I'd have to say Jeff would be correct suggesting the PT-109 kit rather than the 596 kit for the basic PT-342 structure. Starting with PT 372 the forward turret was moved 3 feet aft and pitched slightly forward.
Hope this helps
