Outside of the balsa raft, which we know about, later boats carried upwards of 2 inflatable's. I have never seen one of these actually opened, although have seen them on the charthouse and dayrooms of the boats. How were these rafts inflated, by cartridge like the Mae West Life vest, or were they pumped up. If anyone has any photos of them inflated, maybe you could post them.

Frank: I don't believe I ever saw a inflatable life raft. Some boats had inflatable dinghys. One night our crew stole a rubber dinghy from an Elco boat in Rendova. We deflated it and planned to take it to Green with us the next day. Mr. McLain our skipper, found out about it. Made us return it. They were inflated with a hand pump..

Thanks C.J., it seems that most of the PT BOAT Sailors never saw one of the inflatable rafts ever blown up. Was the hand pump kept right with the raft.......

Frank I don't remember where the pump came from but Mr. McLain made us pump it back up before we returned it. We had it deflated and hidden away down in the lazerrette.
