Mr. Ross or anyone else on the board; I am working on a model of PT337 which carried the early SO-1 radar I believe. I was wondering if anyone had a drawing similar to this one with some of the dimensions on it that I could use as reference to build one for the 337?

Any and all help greatly appreciated.

The 305 is in need for a SO radar and mast/dome for future patrols.

Bruce,

I don't have a factory drawing of the entire unit, so consider the following.
Friedman, in NAVAL RADAR, states that the parabolic reflector withiin the dome of an SO unit was 24 in diameter. The measurements of the dome on a Higgins drawing (BUSHIPS 603267) at 1/72 scale are 3/8 x 1/2. This translates to a diameter of 27 and a height of 36. The height does not include the base on which it sits on the mast top.

Detailed drawings of the mast on a Higgins can be found at

Al,

Thanks for the good data point; I can work with this.

Let me ask another question; I have a buddy that just got the 1/35 Italeri PT-596, how close would this boat's mast be to the 337's? If they are close, or fairly close, I was thinking that with some quick measurements/scaling of the kit's mast I could work out a 1/72 fairly easily.

Thoughts?

Here's an ELCO drawing of the 486 series, which were fitted with SO initially.

The green line approximates the length of the mast between the bases and the cradle. When lowered, the cylindrical portion of the mast top would rest in the cradle. If you look at the Higgins drawings for the mast, you'll see the distance of the bottom of the mast legs above the base. Compare this to the length of the mast on the Italeri kit. I would think they would be the same, but cannot confirm.
