You are correct, it was an R & H song. You can occasionally find the sheet music to it. PT Boats, Inc. has a copy. Unfortunately, it was done at the time there was a nationwide strike in the music industry. If I remember correctly, it had to do with royalties. So not much was recorded except for V-disks. The PT Boat song was a casualty of that strike. As far ar I can tell, it was never recorded.

I have the sheet music to it. Several years ago I gave it to our local Band Leader to have it played for the local chorus. I have it on Cassette tape, but never had it done over to a DVD. According to the Band Director, it was a most difficult piece..........

From what I have read, Al Vanderbilt from Ron 12 was friends with Richard Rogers and wanted him to do a song for the PTs. He loaded him on board PT 196 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard one afternoon and took him for a 40 MPH zig zaging spin up the Hudson and back down the East River. It was as a result of that ride that the song was inspired. Vanderbilt pulled a few strings and got Fred Waring and his Pennsylvanians to premier the song. It only made one public performance that was at the Squadron 12's commissioning and the sheet music carried a photo of Vanderbilt's 196 on it. Frank, sure wish you would send me a copy of that music. I know right where I would use it next !! Wind her up and give her the gun. In a flock of flying splinters that we call PTs.

Roy, you can't have the original sheet music but maybe I can make you a copy. I just have to go through my Museum boxes to see which one it is in..............

Frank, I thought you said you had the song on cassette tape done by a local band. That is what I could use. I don't need the sheet music. Maybe you could send me a video of you singing the song and I could post it on the Tube.

Ted, I purchased that item several months ago thinking it was the sheet music. It turns out it is just a post card of exactly what you see in the photo. I sent him a note and he "revised" his listing. I thought it was rather misleading though.

What about the song over the opening credits of "They Were Expendable?" -- "Sentries of the Navy?"

I'd always kind of thought that might have been the "official" PT boat song...
