The categories have been announced....
Boats, Speedboats, Motor Torpedo Boats, Motor Patrol Boats
418 All scales, types, and eras
I'll be there with at least one PT Boat. Probably PT-105.
Anybody else?
Dave

Hey Dave, was this the show last week or is there another one? I guess the 623 would not be allowed.

Hi Roy,
As Gart said the show is in August. What are your concerns about the 623 being allowed to compete?

I thought this show was just for plastic model kits. With the 623 being a bit larger and scratch built from wood, wouldn't that be a problem?

Roy, if not mistaken they usually have a scratch built category at these things. They tend not to take radio controlled boats too seriously , as they would much rather see something from plastic. A thought would be to bring the 623 as a display only piece. I brought several of my models from my exhibit a few times as display only, and people really loved them. I refused to take them out of the cases, so they could not be entered into the contest........

We recently held an IPMS Regional event at the University of North Florida (UNF) a few weeks ago. The "P" stands for 'PLASTIC" so the model(s) MUST have something plastic on it in order to be entered and judged. They seriously frown upon Radio Controlled models and any R/C model would not be allowed to enter, unless of course you want to yank out all the electronics, which is something I would never do.
I had just finished a commissioned War of 1812 two masted armed merchant Colonial vessel of the "FAIR AMERICAN". I wanted very much to enter the model under the sailing ship division. I was told that being ther is no plastic aon the model and it is all wooden construction, under the IPMS rules I could not enter the model.
Frankie A is correct in saying that I could have just displayed my ship model, but to be able to have it judged is something else for the builder.
I have seen a lot of "drop dead" R/C boat and ship models and I do not understand the IPMS rules when it comes down to allowing these type models in competition. Roy Forbes PT-623 fits into this slot perfectly! I think IPMS should re-write the rulebook on this matter or at least allow for a special space under R/C models.

Well thanks for the update guys and kind words about the 623. My stern 40mm has some plastic in it but I think I'll pass on this event.

It probably wouldn't be allowed. IPMS is for plastic models or at least mostly plastic. I don't think they should change what they are to accommodate other mediums of modeling.
We do have another club in Denver who holds a major regatta every year. I'm sure there are other's across the country as well.
