Frank asked me to upload this shot of PT217. He wonders what the object in the red rectangle is. His initial thought was a broken chair.

A roll off rack and warhead support are visible behind it.

You might be right, Frankie. Sort of looks like a "Doug Fairbanks" chair in shots of the 309.

Al and Frank;
REALLY?? What is the prize for this mystery question??

First of all, look at the photo. This is not PT 127. This is a Higgins PT, and this is the After 20MM gun, looking aft. The 40mm is behind it, and you can also see the end of the smoke generator on the port side.
might the object in question be a field made reinforcement brace for a pipe mounted(the pipe and pintal are removed here)single .50 cal?
Thats my guess.
Take care,
TED

Ted, I think Al hit the wrong numbers on the keyboard, I told him this was PT-217, so I knew it was a Higgins Pt Boat. Still looks like a wooden chair to me..........

Ted, that would be the strangest looking pipe mount I have ever seen for a single .50 or single .30. Normally just a straight pipe with pintle mounting attached is what I have seen.

Could it be a folded up deck chair or seat? Or, just a piece of a discarded wood frame?

Just asking .........

As this is firing practice for the boat, it could be that a chair was placed there to do some work on the rack, and was not removed for the practice gunnery. I just do not think this is any kind of mount that I have ever seen on a PT.
