Topic: FS595 equivalent forThayer Blue |

Hello All,
I wish to build a Thayer blue 80 ft. Elco using the Italeri PT596 kit. As I don't have a White Ensign supplier close by, I am hoping there's a FS equivalent Ican use to match Model master or Humbrol enamels.
Any or all help is greatly appreciated.

There is no FS595 equivalent to the WWII Thayer Blue. If you accept the WEM color chips as accurate (and that seems to be the general concensus), the closest FS595a approximation is 35526. The actual colors are not accurately depicted on the screen, but they give you an idea of the relative shades.

Tony,
I believe White Ensign Models has a Thayer blue paint in their Colour Coats line. I would suggest you order a couple of tins and go to town with the right color.

Nice job Al. The good news is that both colors are readily available and in acrylic if you prefer to go that route. More and more I'm using acrylic paints. That's one of the reasons I invested in the Snyder & Short paint chips so I could do what Al demonstrated.

Hello,
John Snyder of WHITE ENSIGN MODELS just emailed me and told me that, whereas FS 35450 is a little darker than Thayer Blue, one COULD lighten it.

Thanks to all who replied. I am most grateful for the help. Just one more thought comes to mind. Was the Thayer blue a factory finish, or applied in Europe?
If painted in Europe, Is it possible that the equivalent Royal Navy paint (B55) might have been used?
