My grandfather, Lt. William T. Shine, Jr., captain of PT 108 and PT 120 took his final sail today, March 28 at the tender age of 85. Please keeping him and all PT Veterans and their families in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks and Happy Sailing!

One of the hardest things to do is to say goodbye to a loved one. Your Grandfather was lucky to have served with a group of special men that just so happened to serve on a special wooden boat. None of these PT men that I have ever met would trade the experiences they shared on these boats for anything, and I am sure that your Grandfather was no different. He is now once again a young man behind the wheel of his boat flying over the waves, Bow high, spray hitting his face, looking for the enemy. He is once again with his crew, men willing to sacrifice their lives for one another, pals to the end. Who would have thought years later that so many of us would consider these men our Hero's and love the boats they rode to Victory so long ago. Your grandfather is but a small percentage of our WWII Veterans that are leaving us each day. The price they paid to insure our freedoms can never be taken for granted. I hope the time you spent with him is something you will always remember. I am sure he taught you so much. I lost my Grandfather 2 years ago at the age of 93, and there is not a day that goes by that I do not think of him. God Bless you and your Family at this difficult time.
