Hi all,
Not sure why this came to me this morning, but was a challenge coin ever struck for PT crews? I did a search but was unable to find anything.

David;
as for me, I have never seen one, from World War Two period. I think the tradition began after World War Two, and it really came into its own during Vietnam. Now, World War Two Unit coins have been issued since then, But I have not seen any that have dated back to World War Two.
I do know that the U.S.S. Missouri (BB-63), sold in the ships store a miniature "Coin" as a key chain, which is the copy of the round plate plaque in the deck, where the surrender was signed. My Dad had two, and I made a necklace of one.
But an actual challenge coin, I have never seen a World War Two one.
Take care,
TED

Thanks for sharing guys. I didn't realize they were a relatively new tradition.

Hi guys,
Yes Ted is correct, we created one about 3 years ago so that we could have something to return to the VIP's that we give rides to at the annual Portland Rose Festival Fleet Week. Invariably, the Admiral presents the PT658 crew with his own personal challenge coin, and we now have something to present in return to them. We put the "Mosquito riding a torpedo" design that Dick Washichek put on his drawings on one side and the PT boat underway on the other side. They are available either gold or siilver from our savetheptboatinc.com website in the ships store. Thanks for mentioning it Ted! Jerry

Very nice! I'll order one up. Challenge Coins are excellent for inlaying into a wood display base for a model. This one looks great. I can tell you're all just rolling your eyes! :-)
Thanks guys
Dave

Thanks David! I think you will enjoy your coin. Wally should be sending it this week. Jerry
