Gentleman;
Today at 12:55 EST, I had the honor to attend the Pearl Harbor Rememberance Ceremony. While Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron One were the only PT Boats present at Pearl Harbor on Dec 7th 1941, and the Gunners of PT 23 claimed the first two enemy planes shot down, there were thousands of heroes that day, so long ago. Of the original 194 survivors in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, only 12 survive and 8 men showed up to the ceremony, standing proud and tall.
I thought I would share these photos of the ceremony with you.

Thanks for sharing with us Ted.
Admiral Yamamoto, the planner of the Pearl Harbour attack prophesied that the attack would give Japan six months to grab territory befor being forced onto the defensive, He ws correct in that. Yamamoto was also correct, and history proves it, when he stated fter hearing about the attack, "I fear that we have awakened a sleeping giant and filled him with a terrible resolve."
I'm a Canadian but I still find the images of Pear HArbour and the Arizona Monument/War Grave very moving.
Cheers

Ted thanks for sharing with us. I was unable to attend a local PH Day event on Friday/7th where 4 veterans were able to attend, but went by to visit Mr. Arles Cole that evening. He is only 88 years old, and a Pearl Harbor ‘Survivor’ who was aboard the USS West Virginia when it was hit.
He told his entire story to a radio station here in Tulsa. Listen to this link and if you feel so inclined, share it with others. It is an incredible firsthand account of what happened to him and at Pearl Harbor that morning of 7 Dec 1941. Not too many are left now. This is the best way to learn history.

Untrue! A common missconception, unfortunately.

Interesting that the Sleeping Giant quote is erroneous but the Six Months one is pretty close to what was actually said.
Thanks for that link Tracy.
Cheers
