I've developed a new discussion group for modelers of the two Italeri kits. Here's the opening blurb:
The primary purpose of this site is to provide builders of the Italeri 1/35 scale 80' ELCO PT kits (PT 596 and PT 109) with a venue to share their experiences and information with other builders.
THIS GROUP IS NOT SPONSORED BY NOR OTHERWISE AFFILIATED WITH ITALERI. It was created and is moderated by professional ship modeler Al Ross, whose primary modeling and research interest is small combatants.
This is a moderated group. All input will be reviewed prior to posting. Statements of fact that are clearly wrong or are based on questionable references will be rejected. There's plenty of bogus information on small combatants being published on the net and in print; we don't need to add more.
The usual requirements for civility apply, as do those prohibitions for comments of a political, religious, or defamatory nature. Individuals choosing to ignore these simple requirements will discover that banishment from the group is only a mouse-click away... :-}.
Welcome aboard.
I have no hidden agendae nor axe to grind with Italeri (I'm delighted with the entire line of small combatant kits), What I am interested in is providing modelers of these two kits a place to go and get good, accurate input from guys like Dave, Jeff, and others. If you'd like to join the group, here's the address: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ELCO80

Thanks Al.
Sometimes moderated groups are the way to go in order to keep things on topic. Thanks for the membership.
Cheers

Hi Al,
Even though I am no longer a model builder, I go for anything that connected with
PT boats. When I get up in the morning, first thing I do after my daily exercise, is to
get on the message board. So what you proposed I am for it 100%. I am sure this will
give me great pleasure at my old age.
Full speed ahead.

Just colour me very disappointed and sad. The new Yahoo group seems to be geared towards the purist model builders. I build my models as radio controlled models and I combine features/weapons from boats that I fing interesting. I was hoping to post images of my model but they would have been considered either generic or fanciful. Since such images would most likely never be seen I decided to opt out of the group as I wouldn't be allowed to post images of my build. This is the statement I read on the group message that made me make that decision. " Input on generic or fanciful (what if) boats is not likely to be posted,"
Good luck and happy model building.
Peter
