All;
I mentioned a wire/cable that I observed coming out of the charthouse windows/portholes and now after viewing Tracey's info and Al's posts, I am led to believe this is the power supply for the MK49/MK50 Rocket launchers.Am I correct???? See photos below. Any Ideas???
No I don't have Dicks Disk....yet, but I don't want to stop on my models either!
Here are a few photos that show the wire/cable:

Interesting in that I don't see the wire/cable running across the deck to the launcher.

It makes no sense that they would take the time to run the cable under the deck, than pop it up through, and run it so it shows across the chart house, but it certainly is there, so it seems that they did just that.

I will look through my photos today to see how many I have of the wire.
Until then I came across a photo that I saved showing the prototype MK 1 MOD 0 illuminated sight unit for the Mk 50 5" rocket launchers.
This is a great photo.....THANKS!!
Take care,

Unless they tried to avoid having the cable be a tripping hazard in a combatsituation or at night.
Cheers

Ok; Here is the REAL brain tester!!!! You all can see how much this wire/cable is bugging me. Well here is a photo of PT 620 during acceptance trials by the ROK Navy....in Jan 1952. As you can see, the cable is still present exiting the starboard charthouse window on this boat, at this late date, and another one is coming out of the port charthouse window too!!!!! I agree with Frank, and knowing the boats construction, I can't understand why these are not run below the deck, if the are a power cable for the rocket launchers. All ELCO would have had to do is drill holes in the overhead beams and run the cable through them outboard towards the respective launchers.
any ideas??
Take care,

Hmm, what all is inside the charthouse? Controls for the radar? Is it possible that those rockets were radar guided and those cables lead from the launchers to a radar guidance device?
Cheers

Is it possible that those cables are NOT for the launchers? (although I can't imagine what else they could be for).

Ted,
How do those charthouse window covers open? Could that be a cable, like an old choke cable that opens the window cover. I am assuming that there is glass underneath, so the only way to open it would be from the outside.

It certainly looks like a field modification, and good point about the shutters covering those chart house windows. Could be used to open and close them while underway. Pretty good mystery here...............
