So... Did the 109 have a search light? If so, where did they put it? This photo that Drew sent to me shows more of the cockpit, shows that there is no mast behind the helm or bracket on the side of the boat either.

Thanks Drew and David! That's pretty special considering many will be building the new Italeri boat as the 10* just before the ramming. Think of the time saved not having to detail these parts. I'll refrain from adding "do you think they were still missing when she sank?". :D What a pointless argument that would be.
Jerry, I'm going to nominate you for President in 4 years so we can finally have a Higgins man in the White House. I know the perfect boat for the parade.

I think Dick needs to give me a separate partition or whatever you call it just for PT-109. Hey, I'm not afraid to say 109. :-)
Back to the subject at hand. I've seen these mounted in other areas of the boat such as on the radar mast. I'm curious if anyone has seen anything different.
As for the 109, a correct model would not include the light mount behind the helm, the horn shaped bracket on the port side of the helm. So Jeff, it doesn't make it easier to model that way. Now I need to add lift holes and empty bracket holes where all the mounts used to be.
And for the record I have three boats I'm "infatuated" with in the 80' Elco family... PT's 105, 109, and 505. I'm intrigued by 77' PT-59 with all her voluptuous curves and I have my eye on some sassy Higgins boats... Geesh... I need a cold shower! See ya!

Everyone but the model builders out there are running for the exit's as we speak. I think I might join a B-17 message board, just to see what they talk about day after day. Jerry can I borrow PT-658 for the Christmas week, I need to see how she handles, and see how many empty drill holes you have for items you forgot to mount.

It looks like the aft stanchion's inside brackets are still there David. Probably because they used the same bolts as the armor corner angles.
I think some are upset because now they have to knock parts off their finished models. Although there's nothing wrong with a good semi-scale model.

Guys,
Before we get all bothered by speculation...
I’m REAL behind with work so can’t spent time right now but need to quickly post here. With all the discussions of the 109 I had assumed everyone had seen this full frame image and knew the searchlight and bracket were missing. I must have been incorrect. Part of my process of research was to track down the original negatives of these well known photos. I have a print from the original uncropped negative.
What I found is all of the published images of the “JFK in the cockpit” photos are either highly retouched or cropped. Most are both. The photo Dave posted is highly retouched. The original, though speckled with flaws in the negative still clearly shows the bolt holes and detail where the retouched copies do not.
I need to stay focused on work right now but if Dave, you would send me a quick e-mail I’ll send you a JPEG so you can post it.
