Today marks the 70th anniversary of the Guadalcanal Battle of Tassafaronga in which MTB Ron's 3 and 2 participated in the recovery of survivors and/or escorting of damaged crusiers back to Tulagi. A total of 5 cruisers were in that battle: Northampton sunk. New Orleans, Minneapolis, Pensacola damaged. Honolulu was undamaged.

There are five Navy veterans whom I try to keep in contact with that served on the USS New Orleans, USS Pensacola and the USS Northampton (that was sunk that night). They were in their teens at the time, and each has shared their stories of that night. One of these men told how he survived by swimming to Savo Island and was eventually recovered by PT-59 the morning of 1 Dec.

PT-37 and PT-109 together picked up 180 survivors. Would anyone happen to know of PT veterans that may still be around to recall that event from their perspective? Let's keep their memories alive!

Randy;
David M. "Hogan" Levy, skipper of PT 59 that day, he lives in Upstate New York. Also isn't Robbie Robinson still around?
Take care,

Thanks Ted, sorry to report that I've found that David M. Levy died at his home in NY on Feb 4, 2011 at 92 years. I contacted PT Boats Inc and as far as they know, Hugh M. "Robbie" Robinson is still around, so I will try to locate him. If so, he's about 95 or 96 now. Appreciate the info.

Randy;
Thanks for the info on Hogan. Now that he is on his last patrol on PT 59, I hope she takes him to a special place, where he can go down hill Skiing and Trout and Bass fishing all he wants. I suggest you reach out to Robbie while you still can.
Take care
