Frank sent this one to me today. As far as I can tell, it's PT 731.

Note the MK19 tube to port.

Thanks Frank and Al. Do you know what that rail under the turret grab rail is?

Purely a guess, but I suspect it is part of the torpedo reloading gear, perhaps a bumper guard for the turret side. It's at the right height and is in alignment with the angle of the tube. Take a look at reel1, frames 170, 171.

Mr. Ross what is the round tube on the end of the MK19? I am building a 78 ft.Higgins model boat with the mk-19. Thanks!

The photo in this thread is a MK19 MOD 4 tube, fitted to the Soviet ELCO and Higgins PTs. It is different from the MK19s fitted to the US Higgins. According to the MTB MANUAL, the MOD 0 did not have a breech door, while the later MODs did., The item in question is probably just an access plug (note the hex nut on the door end).

Thanks, Mr Ross this is of great help. Our Pt's had the type door as in your drawing, right? This is for the Higgins PT of course.

Depends on which boat you are doing. Based on photos, 71-84 left the plant with the MOD0, while the RON 15 boats had the MOD1. The RON16 boats had the short MK1 tubes for the MK13 torpedoes.

Mr. Ross- Thanks for the photos. The boat I building from plans is a Higgins with the long single air pack on top like the 212.from Dumas
I am using your drawings of the Mk.19. I scaled the up to 1/32 and the drawing are great. I'm making the rear of the tube in brass and will cast many of my own parts. It will not look as good as many of the members here at the Forum. But I get the enjoyment of the history and the help and stories from everyone.

Many thanks and I hope to hear from you again.

Thanks, Al. First time I knew that the MK13's were ever tube-launched.
