Neat photo, Ted -- thanks for posting it.

Interesting to see, from that angle, the rather all-inclusive cover over the 196's dashboard/instrument panel in the cockpit. The photo also shows to good effect the coupling joints, or screw-collars, for the 80' Elco's sectioned whip antenna.

Vanderbilt was certainly a tony society "name," giving some credence to that oft-mentioned "Ivy League" and "East Coast yachtsmen" reputation of PT skippers.

Drew, Frank and Victor:
I have "found" other shots of him, but they are watermarked. I found two nice Getty photos of him, one is similar to this except he is bringing PT 196 up river to their mooring. The other is infront of his tent in new Guinea. When I purchase them I will post them.
