I received some 40MM shells with Bofors and the screw on war heads. These of course are practice rounds but will make a nice display as they come with ammo clips. My question is what to paint them. I had them glass beaded today and hit them with a spray coat of primer. Somewhere I had seen some color pictures of different shells painted with different colors. Anyone know how to obtain this chart so I might choose which colors to make my bofors and heads.

Hi Frank, I found a website call Inert ordinance.net that explains the color codes. It has a good explanation of the codes with several photos. I hope this helps! Jerry

"The color codes identify the round type. As I understand it, the green bodies indicate High Explosive.
From a 1944 Navy Handbook :
Blk/White/Red = HE-I-T (High Explosive-Incendiary-Tracer)
Yellow/Red = HE-I-TDI-SD High Explosive-Incendiary-Tracer,Dark Ignition-Self Destruct "
