Hi all,
Italeri has posted some new pictures of the 109 kit. You'll see some of their finished pieces for the cockpit and engine cover. Take a look at the CAD drawings as well. The combustion chambers on the torpedo tubes look spot on. The Ready Service Lockers open to reveal spare 20mm ammo magazines. The only thing that's jumping out at me so far is the missing lower stabilizer bar on the torpedo tubes. Easy fix though. Included are some photos of the new molds. If the link below doesn't work just go to the Italeri web site and select the article about PT-109 on the news section. I'm getting more excited with every release I'm seeing.

Wow! Looks incredible.
The open-rib framework on the inside of the port cockpit bulkhead has me a little 'fused, though...I've seen this on the inside of the starboard sides of the cockpit in photos of the real boats, but...to port..?
This kit will be well worth the money...

Dick, I'm not sure how well the program I use would export a .step file. There are converter plugins, but from what I've read people have gotten mixed results. I've played with exporting in a format supported by 3D printers but the results weren't very good. I didn't explore all options though.
It would probably be best to rebuild parts in a program that natively supports the .step format.

Drew, the port framework on PT 103-150 would have been mostly hidden by the armor. After PT 162, the armor plate replacement extension was added with the upper inside covered by 1/4" plywood so only the lower framework would be visible. If you have the drawing DVD, ELCO_Roll_5535-1_72SCAN_00256.pdf shows the structure.

I checked the photos of the PT boats that were shipped out on the White Plains for fitting of a 20mm in the forward turret (151-158 shown) and they look like they were fitted with the port armor replacement too although several drawings show the armor replacement was for PTs 163 and on.

Drew, I have in my collection of photos a few shots of the port size wall you speak of. I went looking for them this afternoon, and I am not sure where they are, but I hope to find them for you.

Thanks for the additional info, guys.
Someone should remind Italeri that the framing is not present in those famous "JFK in PT 109's cockpit" photos.
Hopefully, the kit will eliminate this inboard port cockpit bulkhead framing, or include an "armor" piece or part to cover it.
