Yesterday Free Time Hobbies posted a picture of the 109 model on modelwarships.com. I reached out to my contact at Italeri to see if they had anything new they could share with us. In the mean time you can find the posting here and my response to it.
Don't get all excited. This is a long way from the finished product.

David;
Thanks for the update. We are all just drooling for this one to come out! Plus another homerun for them would be if they take the PT 596 Torpedo/weapons package and produce it as a seperate upgrade kit, for the earlier boat with an SO radar.
I think for those who want the SCR-517A, they will have to build it from scratch, it was only used on about 20 boats, if that.
Take care,
TED

Ted,
With so many arcane detail parts that are either resin-cast or photo-etched for so many models, you'd think someone somewhere out there could work up a 1/35th scale SCR-517A "beehive" dome and it's support legs, right?
There's always hope!

The key for me will be to see how they executed on the the mufflers and muffler linkages. If they used Dick Washichek's set of PT blueprints from NARA, this could be the first production PT model that has it right.

Given the diversity of armament configurations on the 103 class boats, there is clearly a need for additonal armament sets. How about dual and single .50 cal pedestal mounts, .30 cal mounts, forward 20 mm mount, roll off torpedo racks, etc. I would just die for a 20mm starboard turret mount for my PT 156 or the other RON 9 boats that cattied it! This would save a considerable amount of scratch building, and I would definitely buy them.

Bridge,
Weren't the mufflers and linkages on the Italeri PT 596 kit pretty good?
I seem to remember seeing a pre-painting photo of the stern of someone's 596 build -- and they looked great to me...

I have the 596 model I have yet to start. I could do a really interesting kit bash with the new 109 kit and some of the weapons from the 596 kit.
Cheers

That is an awfully expensive kit bash. I would prefer two boats and after market armament sets..Italeri has the tooling, they just need the motivation.
