Hi Guys,
I was just prowling through e-bay and came on a collection of 53 B&W photos taken by a PT vet in various locations. Several are from his boat and base and others look like they might be aboard and LST type craft. There is one photo however on the lower row of photos that looks like it was taken on the stern of a PT but........it's a twin 40mm !! Can this be? I have never seen this before. Do I need to update the 623? Hope not.

Never saw a twin on a PT BOAT, this mount would have been too heavy for the boat. We know a couple of the boats had singles for and aft, but I never saw a twin on any PT BOAT.

Nope, defiinitely not on a PT. The single MK3 on PTs weighed around 2400 lbs. The twin MK1 mount was powered, weighed about 14,000 pounds, and required a minimum working circle of 14'.

I played with one of the photos in that batch and found the splinter shield and at least two 40mm clips in the racks on the inside of the shield.
Based on a couple other photos, this appears to be the bow mount on an LSM or an LCI, probably the latter.

Wow Al, that is amazing what you did with those photos. I have never seen a double mount on a PT but I have been surprised before. Thank you for all the time & research you put into solving my mystery.
