This diorama depicts PT-505 being towed to safety after being mined off the coast of France. This is 1:350 scale. The PT boats are about an inch long. The LCM's are from L'Arsenal. The PT is a modified White Ensign Models PT-109 kit. The base is made from a piece of construction foam and a technique taught to me by Frank Spahr. It won't' take me long to finish her up. I hope to enter it into a local modeling contest and then present to Mr. Franks who is currently at the local VA and who was a member of PT-505.

Really cool ! I haven't built a model in years, but did have fun with that hobby when I did. I really enjoy all of the sharing of ideas and details on the message board to insure that they are historically accurate. Thanks for posting your update and I can't wait to hear how your PT veteran friend reacts to it.

I know we talked yesterday. I am going to show Mr. Frank what you have so far and try to get clarification on some of the questions you asked.

That really looks great. I will let you know what he says.

Have you made any more progress on the Diorama. Can't wait to see how you paint the water. This would make a nice project in 1/72 scale as well............

Here are some progress photos of the project. I've added some additional detail to the 505 boat. I'm particularly proud of the 20mm mounts, torpedo tube racks, and radar which will come on future updates. You may be wondering what those wires are doing sticking straight up. They are actually .010 lead wire which after painting will lay down on the deck to represent the pump hoses.

I've started painting the figures and with your help I'll be finishing them up soon and in time to be included in the finished model. Tomorrow I will paint the hull and deck fixtures Thayer Blue

The plan is to have this completed by Sept 15th in time for the Wingnutcon model show at the local museum. After that I'm looking forward to showing it to Mr. Frank, our PT veteran residing at the local VA hospital.

Here I've added paint to the deck and added a giant penny for perspective.

Quick update. Time is getting short. My goal is to have this completed on Saturday in time for the model show. Anyway, here's where we are...

LCM with pump and hoses installed. I decided it would be easier to run the hoses if they all came from the LCM.

The Lead LCM. Pretty basic. Wires sticking up are for some strange arrangement these boats have over the helm. Not uncommon for LCM's.

And my trusty crew in all kinds of clothing

Enjoy!
