Hopefully a PT vet, or a historian or enthusiast with definite knowledge will answer, but a good guess would be either black...or dark blue.
I've read that the leather cushions around the tiny wardroom table below decks was navy blue on 80' Elcos...

I think they are just made of metal without any leather covering, so they would be grey painted steel. We have one of these PT Boat 50 cal gun turrets on the PT658 and the seat back is just a rounded steel sheet, that is bolted to the ring. Something like that does not really warrant being covered with leather, since it sits out in the weather and leather would rot. Also the backrest is used more to allow your hips to rotate the ring's tapered roller bearings which actually move quite easily, so padding is not needed. I have seen several photographs ans have never detected any sign of these backrests being covered with leather. Just my 2 cents...Jerry

Thanks. That is most helpful. And it makes it easier . One less thing to paint differently.

Ed,
I have a photo at home of the Elco in Fall River. They were just metal.

E-mailing you a partial photo. In looking over half a dozen not-so-clear shots, it would appear that at least some of the turret seats had a thin backpad.

Well, the turret backrests themselves may have been "just metal," but I've seen plenty of PT photos that show they were covered, lined or padded with some sort of material, which shows up dark in the pictures.
