we gad vatious ways of duing this. hand grenades, nets, libes, gungite.we madde our own fiishing hooks with wirtr snd baatbed it with a file.we used small sqyares iof our hard cheese ,we would dip the libne into thev water aand taise it back up just above the water, the fush would jump upn to get it ans d their weight would snag them on the hopok when they came down in it,this us not a liwe,it did wotk
we also got laarge sea turtles by askung the natives to get tjhem for us,.we used pointed rods or limbs, they would go out in a pair and one of them would get on each side of the turtle and one would rAM the rod thru the neck.each native would grab a n end odf the rod and swum to tthe beach with tthee turtle, turn it upside diown.would then cut the shell off the meat abd vlean the wentrails off abd cut thee meat into chunks.the cyts of meat were different in that each had a duffwerent taste.we cut them into steasks and also made soup.

Hi Earl: We never fished much off the boat. We didn't have any fishing tackle on the boat. I recall being in drydock at Green Island for a couple of days and our Squadron Maintenance Officer, Mr. Sweet, had some rods and reels he loaned us to fish with off the drydock. We caught several nice barracuda about 18 inches long and one shark about 2 foot long. We dressed them and our cook, Bill Knapp, took them to the mess hall and cooked them for our crew. He fried them I think. Barracuda is darn good eatin'.
